Yanbaru Kuina Day - To protect rare birds endemic to Okinawa

 

September 9th is a pun on Yanbaru Kuina Day

The Yanbaru Kuina is the only flightless bird in Japan that can only be found here in the world.It is said that the number of Yanbaru rails was reduced to about 700 at one point due to the fact that they cannot fly and the damage caused by alien species such as the mongoose.At Okashigoten, we are carrying out activities to protect such a valuable Okinawan bird, the Yanbaru Kuina.
